Where does all this dust come from?

Today the majority of air pollution is a result of the products of combustion such as motor vehicle emissions, power stations, municipal incineration, with larger dusts from agricultural and horticultural activity through to natural erosion. It is said that for every cubic mile of air there is one ton of dust suspended in the air. There are many other examples of the amount and effects of dust which include the alarming discolouration effect of carbon black.
