Why do we install air filtration

"To protect processes, air handling equipment, building interiors and people from the effects of airborne pollution".

There are three main reasons for the use of some form of air filtration in office building HVAC systems, which relate primarily to the protection of equipment and decor with longer-term considerations of health and safety. (Refer Eurovent / Cecomaf recommendation concerning indoor air quality, January 1999).

To protect the HVAC system from gross contamination we fit filters of preferable grade F5 - coarse filters. To ensure decor is maintained in a good clean condition we install filters of a minimum grade F7, usually in a filter bank system. These filters are referred to as secondary filters. For the removal of unpleasant odours generated externally and perhaps internally the use of some form of physisorption or chemisorption product may be considered. It is generally accepted in Britain that sufficient outside air with effective distribution to promote the dilution ventilation effect, will control unpleasant odours in the majority of office buildings. Outside air will add an energy cost to running the HVAC system. However a minimum of 8 l /s/person of outside air is required for personal health and safety.
